Realtor Safety: Personal safety on the job, including working in the office, at open houses and property showing, client meetings and traveling to appointments, should be a constant priority for evcery Realtor. Take time to review the Safety Resources provided by IAR and NAR. Below are tips for open houses:
-
- Check the back door for ease of escape.
- Park your car in the street and not in the driveway. That way you cannot be blocked in.
- When a propsect arrives, heighten your observation. Note the car, make and year. Mentally size the person(s) up. Compare them in your mind to someone you know.
- When the propect arrives, meet him or her at the door. Once the door is closed, verify the unlocked position.
- Insist that every one visiting the open house sign the registry.
- If you accompany the prospect, always direct the prospect. Do not lead.
- Never go into a basement or storage area alone with a prospect.
